Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has been encouraged by Okechukwu Osuoha, the PDP’s deputy national legal adviser, to remain faithful to the party when he returns to office following the expiration of the six-month emergency rule.
Osuoha underlined that responsibility, unwavering devotion to the PDP, and a fresh dedication to promoting peace and stability in the oil-rich state must be the cornerstones of Fubara’s comeback to power.
He explained that Fubara’s suspension was brought on by President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in March and that the governor must now return to his constitutional duties as no extension has been given.
The problem is that the president declared an emergency, which is permitted by the constitution. Due to the six-month ban and the lack of an extension, he must return to the office.
“Therefore, he must return and assume his role as executive governor of Rivers State,” Osuoha added.
Osuoha emphasized that Fubara’s return should signal a new stage of growth and healing, while acknowledging the discussions surrounding the legitimacy of suspending an elected governor under emergency rule.
“Every Nigerian anticipates a friendly relationship between the governor and the House of Assembly, as well as between the legislative and executive branches of Rivers State,” he continued.
“Let there also be a good relationship between him and his godfather, whoever made it possible for him to secure that position,” he said, urging Fubara to patch things up with his political backers.
“The state needs peace and unity in order for development to occur, as Rivers has endured a great deal of hardship.”
Osuoha urged the governor to get involved in PDP operations and emphasized the value of party loyalty.
Since he is still a PDP member, he ought to be actively involved in party activities.
“The party is the best. The party will support you and come to your aid if you are having any issues.
He counseled, “I want to see him fully participating in the PDP so Nigerians will know he belongs to the party.”
