2027: Wike Accuses Jonathan’s Supporters of Plotting National Crisis

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued a warning, saying that those pushing former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for president in 2027 are purposefully trying to cause a crisis in the nation.

Speaking on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” Thursday night, Wike claimed that despite Jonathan’s well-established reputation as a worldwide statesman, it was hypocritical for the same individuals who thwarted his 2015 campaign to demand for his return.

“Anyone who suggests that Jonathan should go back because he will only serve one term is merely seeking a catastrophe. He was deserted by these same individuals in 2015. Why now? They only want to draw Jonathan into needless confrontation, despite the fact that he has established himself internationally, Wike stated.

Under the pretext of a “one-term presidency,” the minister warned against attempts to upset the political balance by supporting Jonathan or any other Southern candidate, calling such actions “insincere.”

Regarding President Bola Tinubu’s government, Wike acknowledged that the nation was going through a challenging period, but he maintained that the president had made difficult but essential choices to realign the economy.

Indeed, there is adversity. I concur. However, there is no denying that this government is working to make things better. Every day, I witness the projects in Abuja; they are proof that something is taking place,” he emphasized.

Wike also accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of hypocrisy for his recent warnings of an impending revolution over poverty and hunger.

For eight years, Atiku served as vice president. Why didn’t he establish the framework to stop hunger back then? He now continues to discuss revolution and starvation. Since there is no reality in what he says, I don’t even bother reading it,” Wike said.

The FCT minister insisted that opposition politicians shouldn’t take advantage of the country’s current economic difficulties for political ends, even though Nigerians must have patience with the Tinubu administration.
