Due to long-standing welfare concerns and the failure to implement the new National Minimum Wage, nurses and midwives at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have begun an indefinite strike.
This was said in a statement issued on Saturday in the state capital of Ibadan by the Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and the Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake.
According to reports, the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Unit of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives went on strike after the hospital’s management was given a 15-day ultimatum.
The group, which clarified the start of the strike, claimed that after numerous meetings and reminders, no significant action had been taken to fulfill its requests on Friday.

They added that the teaching hospital serves as a vital referral hub for patients from Oyo, Osun, Kwara, and surrounding towns because it is the only state-owned tertiary healthcare facility in the state.
The organization also cautioned that a strike may seriously impair services for thousands of patients, including children, pregnant women, accident victims, and emergency situations.
Therefore, it urged Governor Seyi Makinde to act quickly to guarantee justice and equity in the welfare of the workforce, emphasizing that maintaining high-quality healthcare service in the state depends on industrial harmony.
The nurses and midwives reaffirmed their dedication to providing high-quality care and professional excellence, but they also insisted that the strike would go on until their demands were satisfied.
Wider discontent in Nigeria’s healthcare system is reflected in the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital’s industrial action.
Even though their complaints about unpaid wage arrears, hazard allowances, residency training funds, and unfavorable working conditions were not entirely addressed, it was reported on Friday that the Senate’s intervention had caused the Federal Capital Territory’s resident doctors to cease an indefinite strike.
