INEC Releases Final List of 17 Candidates for FCT Council Elections

The complete list of 17 candidates for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, which are set for Saturday, February 12, 2026, has been made public by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.

The information was revealed in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday by Mr. Sam Olumekun, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, or IVEC.

He said that the publishing came after the legally mandated time frame for candidate substitution and withdrawal had ended.

On August 18, INEC released the personal information of the candidates who won the political party primaries.

Olumekun remembered that before the deadline of 6 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 17 political parties had submitted their candidate details (Form EC9).

“As stipulated by Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act, no additional candidate withdrawals or replacements will be permitted after the release of this final list, with the exception of the regrettable circumstance of a candidate or running mate passing away prior to election day,” Olumekun stated.

The whole list of candidates, including information on their political parties, age, gender, and educational background, has been posted to INEC’s website and social media accounts for public viewing and analysis, he continued.
