During his speech at the UN headquarters, President Donald Trump attacked the international organization and declared that his nation supports it “100%.”
At the start of a bilateral meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Mr. Trump made the announcement after addressing world leaders in New York.
As he delivered the U.S. national statement, Mr. Trump criticized the organization harshly for its handling of issues including climate change, irregular migration, and conflicts.
Despite his frequent criticism of the international organization, the U.S. leader stated that there is “a great deal of potential for peace with this institution.”
Mr. Trump declared, “Our nation is completely behind the United Nations.” I firmly believe that the United Nations has extraordinary potential. It is quite capable. I am therefore in favor of it. Despite my occasional disagreements, I strongly support it because I believe there is a tremendous deal of room for peace with this organization. I simply wanted to say thank you for being so kind to us. Thank you so much for being here.
For the sixth occasion as U.S. President, Mr. Trump spoke to international leaders at the UN headquarters, saying that it is always an honor to be there.
While he was there, he also mentioned the teleprompter while giving his speech and the broken escalator.
The escalator and the teleprompter made this a little more thrilling than the last time we did it, but these things do happen. However, he added, “I will tell you that your people have treated us with great respect.”
The U.S. was crucial to the UN’s establishment, according to the secretary-general of the organization.
“We are extremely appreciative of the generosity of the American people, who have been our main source of political and financial support for decades,” he stated. However, there are a lot of other areas where we can work together constructively, and I think that peace is the most crucial. You have made peace the primary goal of your mandate.
Trump has been “going North and South, East and West, in all possible situations, getting, or trying to get, ceasefires,” according to Mr. Guterres.
According to the UN chief, Trump has been “making peace agreements, reducing tensions, or the foundation for peace agreements.”
The UN’s whole leadership and all of its teams at every level are completely available to Mr. Trump, Mr. Guterres assured him. To “be able to work together for a just peace in the world, based on our common values and on the United States constitution,” he stated.
The ability to end the terrible agony endured by millions of people worldwide is something that is very significant to me. The UN chief expressed gratitude for your involvement in that matter.
