Governor Umo Eno’s assertions that he controls all Akwa Ibom State political structures have drawn criticism from the PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice.
Eno just joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), having been elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The group noted in a statement signed by its chairman, Dr. Tom FredFish, that “the governor has chosen to waste energy on needless political grandstanding rather than addressing the pressing socio-economic challenges facing citizens at a time when Akwa Ibom people earnestly expect responsive and impactful leadership.”
It is well known that Senate President Chief Godswill Akpabio publicly turned over the entire Akwa Ibom State All Progressives Congress (APC) political apparatus to Governor Umo Eno.
Consequently, this raises the question of what other structure the governor is fighting for and against. Such careless rhetoric only serves to highlight his political journey’s lack of focus, conviction, and clarity.
“Governor Eno’s decision to defect to the APC was a grave miscalculation that was based more on expediency than principle, bleak, and unsustainable.” His present difficulties reveal the truth of a man surrounded by odd allies who don’t share his vision or have any true faith in his ability to lead. It is nonetheless true that his natural political home is not and cannot be the APC.
While there is yet hope, we implore Governor Umo Eno to turn around and rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Governance is about vision, selfless devotion, and an unrelenting dedication to the benefit of the people, not about unending political wrangling. Akwa Ibom needs a leader who is people-oriented, brave, and focused—not one who is sidetracked by internal arguments and small-scale rivalries.
