On Friday, President Bola Tinubu assured Nigerians that the worst is behind them and that prosperity is on the horizon, likening the suffering they are experiencing to the agony of an economic operation.
According to reports, Tinubu made the pledge at Mapo Hall in Ibadan when Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja was crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Speaking to people and dignitaries, the president stated that the country’s economy is recovering from the crisis, despite its continued fragility.
“To those of you in attendance, I am honored and happy to share with you the good news that the economy has turned around today. Tinubu declared, “There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel.”
He explained that Nigerians’ suffering was a necessary cost.
“Your pain is a result of a grueling surgical procedure. However, it has now returned to the time of expansion and prosperity that lies ahead. I appreciate your tenacity. I appreciate your patience and your understanding,” he continued.
At 2:28 p.m., the President and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde arrived at the location.
Along with a number of Federal Executive Council (FEC) members, he was accompanied by the governors of Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti states.
As part of the coronation ceremonies, Tinubu previously received the traditional Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound in Oja’ba, Ibadan.
The late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, who died on July 7, 2025, after just one year in power, was succeeded by Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State.
A variety of political figures, royal fathers, and dignitaries from all around the nation attended Friday’s event, which was held almost three months after Olakulehin’s passing.
Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto; Oba Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo; Oba Ghandi Adeoye, the Soun of Ogbomoso; Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo; and Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, were among the traditional leaders present.
Members of the House of Representatives, senators, state legislators, and former governors were also in attendance.
