When Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized nations that recently chose to recognize Palestine as a state, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) was filled with jeers on Friday.
According to reports, Netanyahu called the actions of nations that have chosen to accept Palestinian statehood “shameful, sheer madness, and insane” during his speech.
He maintained that such measures would just give terrorists more confidence worldwide.
However, several audience members disagreed with his statement, leading some delegates to stage a walkout. The protest went on until a UN official had to call for calm before the Israeli prime minister could continue.
Recognizing Palestinian statehood, according to Netanyahu, would be equivalent to inciting terrorism against Jews and innocent people everywhere.
He likened the effort to provide Palestinian statehood following the October 7 attack by Hamas to the provision of a state to al Qaeda close to New York City following the September 11 attacks.
Israel, according to Netanyahu, will not permit countries to “shove a terror state” down their throats.
“Your ignominious choice will incite terrorism against Jews and innocent people worldwide. All of you will be ashamed of it.
“You’re handing the bigoted fanatics who carried out and encouraged the Sabbath massacre the ultimate reward.
“Giving al Qaeda a state a mile from New York City after September 11 is equivalent to giving the Palestinians a state a mile from Jerusalem after October 7.”
He declared, “We will not commit national suicide because you lack the courage to confront hostile media and antisemitic mobs calling for Israel’s blood.”
The Israeli prime minister went on to denounce the conflict in Gaza, saying that “biased media, radical Islamist constituencies, and anti-semitic mobs” are influencing world politicians.
