Following the physical assault of Julius Abure, the LP’s factional national chairman, at the Benin Airport in Edo State on Friday, the party’s crisis took a violent turn.
The incident happened when a woman known as Precious Oruche, also called Mama P, confronted Abure as he boarded a Max Air flight from Abuja to Benin, according to a statement released by Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Abure-led faction.
According to Ifoh, the altercation started when Oruche challenged Abure in the boarding line at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
“She persisted in the attack during the flight even after flight attendants intervened to help her relax,” Ifoh claimed.
Oruche allegedly tried to lunge at Abure once more when they arrived at Benin Airport, but security personnel reportedly swept him away and turned him over to the police, escalating the scene.
Furthermore, according to the LP spokesperson, Oruche, who is a content producer and a member of a “known political family,” boasted in one of her online videos that her contacts in the police hierarchy made her untouchable.
She reportedly promised to keep attacking Abure and other party officials because, in her own words, “you have killed Labour Party and you are the reason why Obi is no longer in the Labour Party,” according to Ifoh.
Ifoh denounced what he called a “suicidal aggression” against the party’s leadership.
“The leadership of the Labour Party is extremely disturbed by this cyberbullying and the repercussions of this political agent’s action on the party,” he continued. With this statement, we are urging the Inspector General of Police to look into this attack on the Labour Party leadership, and specifically on Barrister Julius Abure.
He urged members to maintain composure while police authorities dealt with the situation, emphasizing that the attack was a purposeful attempt by anti-democratic forces to destabilize the party.
