Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, has called the murder of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, an anchor, reporter, and producer for ARISE News, a “horrible incident” that needs to be investigated immediately for the sake of justice.
Abiodun said he was deeply shocked to learn of the 29-year-old’s brutal murder by armed robbers in her Katampe, Abuja, home. He offered his condolences to the management and employees of Arise News, advising them to find comfort in the legacy of honesty and openness left by the deceased rather than letting the tragic event depress them.
Abiodun encouraged the security authorities to cooperate and find the news anchor’s killers as soon as possible in a statement signed by Hon. Kayode Akinmade, his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy.
“The murder of the well-liked, incredibly adaptable, and affable news anchor on Monday, September 29, 2025, during an armed robbery incident in her home in the Katampe neighborhood of Abuja is a most terrible, terrifying incident whose perpetrators must be swiftly located and brought to justice,” he stated.
Every hour that the criminals go unpunished causes enormous institutional and psychological harm to Nigeria. The murderers need to be apprehended as soon as possible, tried, and given the proper punishment.
It is unacceptable that 29-year-old Sommie, a lawyer and vivacious voice who interacted and connected with Nigerians on a daily basis, die in vain. The murderers must receive the worst punishment possible as soon as possible.
“I offer my condolences to her parents, friends, and family, as well as the Arise News staff, on this very sad event.
“I sincerely pray that the Almighty God will grant them the strength to endure the irreversible loss and ease their hearts during this terrible time.”
