Tang Renjian, China’s former minister of agriculture, was found guilty of bribery and corruption and given a two-year reprieve before being executed.
According to reports, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the People’s Court of Changchun in Jilin Province handed down the decision.
According to the court, Tang, the former governor of Gansu, took cash and property bribes totaling over $38 million between 2007 and 2024.
The ruling stated that Tang’s conduct seriously harmed both the people and the state.
He expressed regret, acknowledged the crime, and gave back a portion of the illicit gains.
In accordance with the terms of China’s criminal legislation regarding the death penalty, the court suspended his execution for a period of two years as a result of these actions.
Depending on his actions during the respite time, the 63-year-old politician’s sentence under the suspended sentence arrangement could be reduced to either a fixed jail term or life in prison.
With Tang’s conviction, President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption drive, which continues to target public officials nationwide who are suspected of wrongdoing, has punished an increasing number of high-ranking officials.
