John Chuma Nwosu, the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) candidate for governor in the November 8th Anambra State governorship election, has sworn to serve a single term if elected.
In the same zone as the current governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, who is from Isuofia in the Aguata Local Government Area, Nwosu is from Nnewi in Anambra South.
In addition to serving his first term, Soludo is running for reelection.
Anambra’s governorship zoning mechanism, which is unwritten, encourages seat rotation among the three zones. Nwosu had previously promised to serve only one term in order to finish the southern zone’s remaining one term.
During his visit to the High Court in Awka on Thursday, Nwosu signed an affidavit promising to lead Anambra State for a maximum of four years.
His determination to maintain openness, responsibility, and selflessness in governance is demonstrated by the action, which has been characterized as audacious and model.
Nwosu reaffirmed in a statement following his signature on the affidavit that being a leader should not be about holding onto power but rather about producing outcomes in a precise, well-defined timeframe.
“I entered the race to serve, not to rule,” he declared. I have already made the commitment in public, and the court has now formally sealed it. If the goal is sincere, Anambra can be transformed in four years.
