Defections: APC Coercing PDP Governors, Others – Party Spokesman Alleges

The All Progressives Congress, or APC, has been accused by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of employing anti-democratic tactics, such as coercion and deceit, to pressure its members—particularly active governors—to join the ruling party.

The APC government, led by President Bola Tinubu, was also charged by the PDP with destroying the opposition as part of its scheme to impose a one-party system on the nation.

These accusations were made by PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba on Thursday in response to assertions made by Bashir Ahmad, a former assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari, that two PDP governors would switch to the APC within the next few days.

He said that force, harassment, inducement, and intimidation were the main reasons behind the majority of defections, which were not voluntary.

In a post on X on October 7, Ahmad said that the governor of Taraba State and another governor from the North West would formally switch to the APC within a few days.

In addition to asserting that such forced defections will not continue, the PDP spokesperson said that the party was larger than its individual members and that when some members left, others joined.

A celebration is about everyone, not just a select few. Today, the PDP employs an increasing number of diverse individuals. The PDP is bringing itself together, which is why more and more individuals are joining it again.

“Inducement, harassment, coercion, and intimidation are the reasons behind the defections you witness today, and I can guarantee that they won’t continue,” he stated.
