Why Governor Mbah Joined APC – Party Chieftain Obiechina Reveals

According to Dr. Alex Chukwuemeka Obiechina, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah’s choice to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC demonstrates that he is more concerned with the future than the present.

He said that even if Governor Mbah did not join the national ruling party, his second term was already guaranteed.

According to reports, Governor Peter Mba, who was elected in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will formally join the APC on Tuesday.

Obiechina revealed to reporters in Abuja on Monday that Governor Mbah’s decision to join the APC is an example of his unusual political bravery and wisdom.

“I am personally amazed by the way this young man has brought zeal, excellence, courage, and foresightedness into governance and politics of Enugu State,” he said, referring to the governor’s rejection of blind opposition politics.

He claimed that the PDP’s blatant impunity, lack of discipline, and opposition to change had caused the state to stagnate for the previous 26 years.

“This governor is guaranteed a second term.”

He claimed that his choice to join the APC demonstrated his concern for the future over the present.

Obiechina, who ran for governor of Enugu State in 2011 as a candidate for the PDP, said that it was fortunate that the governor of Enugu State decided to abandon the decrepit opposition party in favor of a better future in the APC after reflecting on the party’s purported impunity that denied him the opportunity to run.

“The PDP is undoubtedly suffering from its numerous political transgressions, including as corruption, poor party management, impunity, and unheard-of political indiscipline. That the governor of my home state did not waste any more time in the terrible assembly to join the APC makes me very happy and relieved.

In addition to refusing the South East the chance to fly the party’s presidential banner in 1999, 2003, and 2023, the PDP had no moral remorse over giving Mbah the option to participate in the national Working Committee of the party as the sole PDP governor from the region.

“Mbah’s decision to introduce the big broom of national progressive politics has now swept out all the remaining flags of the PDP’s years of humiliation in the South East.”

Some of Governor Mbah’s cabinet members waved the APC flag while declaring their support for the party on Monday at the Enugu State Government House.

In a widely shared video, some of them declared, “We are in the APC now, Jagaban all the way, APC from bottom to top.”

Dr. Lawrence Ezeh, Prince of Mburumbu and Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology; Dr. Amaka S. Ngene, Chairman of the Science, Technical, Vocational Schools Management Board; and Dr. Felix Nnamani, Commissioner for Labor, are among the cabinet members.
