The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its nationwide crackdown on drug-related activities, arresting over 100 individuals, including Lagos socialite and nightclub owner Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike.
The arrest followed a coordinated raid on Proxy Night Club, Victoria Island, Lagos, where NDLEA operatives—acting on intelligence—disrupted an alleged drug party around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday. Substances such as Loud and laughing gas were recovered from both the club premises and its storage area.
In a related development, NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) uncovered 70 parcels of cocaine, weighing 3.6 kilograms, concealed in cocoa butter containers destined for the United Kingdom. Three suspects were arrested, including cargo agent Lawal Olakunle, health worker Deborah Ogunmuyide, and travel agency CEO Mutiu Adebiyi.
Similarly, a Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, was intercepted at the Enugu International Airport while attempting to export 103.59 grams of methamphetamine to the Philippines, cleverly hidden inside a Diabeta herbal coffee tea pack.
NDLEA operatives also made significant seizures across multiple states:
-
21,950 tramadol capsules concealed in a water heater in Kwara State.
-
450,000 pills of tramadol and exol-5 in Taraba State.
-
162.2 kg of cannabis (skunk) along the Okene-Lokoja highway.
-
128 kg of cannabis in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
In Lagos, Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, a mother of two and a known distributor of Canadian and California Loud cannabis, was arrested in Lekki. In Ikorodu, another suspect, Ogunyabo Adenigbigbe, was caught with 275 litres of “skuchies,” a mixture of blackcurrant drink, cannabis, and opioids.
At the Seme border, Jacob Ojugbele and Amusa Oluwabukola were nabbed with 55 kg of skunk and 121.3 litres of skuchies, respectively. In Zamfara, Abubakar Ibrahim, 30, was caught transporting an AK-47 rifle and 1,746 rounds of ammunition from Sokoto to the Bagega forest.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), praised the officers involved in the series of successful operations and urged them to maintain momentum in the ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative.
