Use Anambra Election to Redeem Your Image, LP Candidate Urges INEC

George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor of Anambra State, has accused the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) of using Saturday’s poll to improve its reputation.

During an appearance with Channels Television on Thursday, Moghalu made this accusation.

The off-cycle governorship election in Anambra State, where incumbent Charles Soludo is running for reelection for a further four years, was set for November 8 by INEC.

According to reports, the electoral commission has approved 16 political parties, including the LP, for the exercise.

“Let’s be forgiving of INEC. To come here and dismiss it would be incredibly unjust. It is accountable for providing the people of Anambra with free, fair, and reliable elections.

“Let me state unequivocally that INEC has a chance to improve its reputation. Moghalu stated that INEC must act morally and win back the public’s trust in our election.

He claims that troublemakers, such as members of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), are powerless to stop the election.

On the other hand, he urged security personnel to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism and to make it possible for voters to exercise their right to vote on Saturday.

“I’m confident that we have peace and a credible climate to have peace once the security agencies become professional and carry out their duties.

“I also think that the IPOB, ESN, or whatever name they go by, are powerless to prevent our election. Since I have the platform, the point I’m making here is to urge the security agencies to act with extreme professionalism. He said, “Do what is right, provide security, and provide the enabling environment.”
