PDP Confirms November 15–16 National Convention to Hold in Ibadan

A group inside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has maintained that the party’s National Convention, scheduled on November 15–16, will proceed as scheduled.

The party’s official 𝕏 account posted a statement on Friday outlining the stance.

The PDP is prepared to nominate a new National Working Committee (NWC) and finalize its strategies in advance of Nigeria’s pivotal general elections in 2027, according to the statement.

In the 2027 elections, the party promised to oppose the All Progressives Congress (APC) and seize democratic authority.

Eight days remain until the historic Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Elective Convention on November 15–16, 2025. As Nigeria’s leading opposition force prepares for a victorious comeback in 2027, the party is working nonstop to elect a dynamic new National Working Committee (NWC) and solidify its unbreakable unity.

Over 3,000 delegates from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory will attend the historic #Ibadan2025 event, which is scheduled to take place at the completely renovated Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan.

The statement said, “This two-day spectacle is more than a leadership transition—it’s a bold declaration of renewal, reconciliation, and resilience, positioning the PDP to dismantle the All Progressives Congress (APC) grip on power and restore hope to millions of Nigerians weary of economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures.”

On the basis of a ruling by Justice A. L. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, the PDP declared that it will proceed with the convention despite the party’s splits and ongoing crises.

Recall that hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered the convention to be put on hold, the court had authorized the convention to proceed.

“On November 4, 2025, the Oyo State High Court, led by Justice A. L. Akintola, issued a resounding interim decision that cleared the way for the convention and required the Independent National election Commission (INEC) to oversee the proceedings in accordance with all applicable election rules.

“This crucial decision quickly overturned previous attempts to sabotage the event, upholding the PDP’s internal democracy and constitutional rights.

“The National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), led by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has confirmed smooth preparations: aspirant screenings are finished, delegate accreditation is moving forward, and logistics—including improved security, cutting-edge facilities, and virtual streaming for nationwide engagement—are locked in,” the PDP continued.
