Despite growing international worries over reported Christian killings in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu said Friday that his country would not be frightened by outside pressure.
Days after US President Donald Trump warned potential military action over what he called “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, Tinubu expressed his stance in a message posted on his verified 𝕏 account.
According to reports, Tinubu declared that Nigeria would not be intimidated or driven into fear and that the nation would continue to interact with the international community with confidence.
On Wednesday, President Trump asserted that Christians in Nigeria were under existential threat and threatened to step in if the Nigerian government did nothing.
He insisted that Washington would “completely wipe out” the Islamic terrorists responsible for the claimed killings and that he had instructed the US Department of War to prepare alternatives for airstrikes or forces on the ground.
Nigeria was previously classified as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) by Trump due to claims of widespread persecution.
