Okpebholo Issues Stern Warning to Criminals: ‘We Warned Them, They Tested Us’

Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, has stated that since taking office, the state’s security situation has improved.

After years of conflict, nightlife has finally returned to the state, the governor said in a statement sent by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, to commemorate his first anniversary in office.

Speaking out on security, health reforms, governance, and the 2027 elections, Okpebholo maintained that public safety demands unwavering firmness while asserting that leadership is simplest when rooted in respect.

“We cautioned them. They put us to the test. He confirmed arrests and the destruction of gang hideouts, saying, “We acted decisively.”

The governor said that the state has made progress against abduction.

“For three weeks in a row, the crime rate has decreased thanks to the training and deployment of over 300 vigilante individuals. He proclaimed, “Edo is not a place for criminals.”

He described grassroots policing as the future of Nigeria’s security architecture and reiterated his strong support for the State Police.

Additionally, Okpebholo discussed broad improvements in the health sector, which he called “comatose” before to taking office.

He affirmed that more than 80 primary healthcare facilities in all 18 LGAs have now undergone renovations, and that freshly hired physicians and nurses have been deployed and kept on staff thanks to better pay.

He claimed that after his mother’s hamlet welcomed its first resident physician, a previous deputy governor personally complimented him.

In terms of infrastructure, the governor emphasized the revitalization of the famous Edo Line, which has been reinforced with 50 new CNG buses in addition to the 100 that have already been supplied under his administration.

In terms of politics, Okpebholo stated that, ahead of the general election in 2027, the APC is still the party to beat.

He added that President Tinubu’s backing has increased the party’s popularity throughout Edo State, saying, “We promised 2.5 million votes, and we are not joking.”

He cited new road networks along Sapele Road and ongoing flyovers at Ramat Park and Adesuwa as evidence that 2027 will be shaped by performance rather than propaganda.

“People in Edo trusted me to deliver.” “I promise not to betray that trust,” Okpebholo said in closing.
