On Friday, Bashir Ahmad, a former media assistant to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, denied claims that the imprisoned leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, had “converted” two wardens at the Sokoto Custodial Center to anti-government sentiment.
According to reports, Ahmad categorically rejected the article as unfounded, calling it “dumb” and unfit for publication.
According to social media accounts, Kanu persuaded two jail wardens to “hate Nigeria,” and both officers subsequently quit their jobs after adopting a similar viewpoint.
The assertions, which initially appeared on Facebook, were unsupported by any supporting material or credible source.
In a post on 𝕏, Ahmad criticized IPOB supporters who had spread the accusation, expressing indignation that it had acquired popularity without evidence.
“I just read one of the dumbest posts on Facebook, a claim that Nnamdi Kanu has ‘converted’ two prison wardens in Sokoto Prison to join him in hating Nigeria, and that the wardens even resigned,” he said.
“You know what? Without any reasoning or proof, his people have been spreading the post because they believe it.
