The horrific murder of retired judge Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, whose body was discovered bound in her Asaba home, was verified by the Delta State Police Command on Friday.
Since the murder was found late on Sunday night, Asaba has experienced tremendous indignation, anxiety, and increased security worries.
Justice Okogwu, a former judge who was born in Asaba, was discovered dead in her home, which was situated right outside The Pointer Newspapers’ Asaba headquarters.
Her attackers “bound her legs and hands” before looting her home, according to preliminary findings. Investigators believe this was a deliberate and targeted crime.
Ogbueshi Godfrey Okogwu, the victim’s brother, described the family’s amazement and questioned the unusual disappearance of the home’s night security officer while providing poignant details of the unfortunate event.
“My oldest sister was murdered in her home on Sunday night,” Okogwu said to The Guardian. Since we didn’t learn about the incident until Monday morning, we assume it occurred at night.
The night security guard’s disappearance is a serious red flag. According to the morning guard, when he came, the gate was wide open. He claimed to have just sat there. What were you sitting there doing?
He urged authorities to broaden the investigation to include the contractor in charge of the judge’s security after confirming that the family had provided information about the private security organization that used the guards.
Aspects of the continuing investigation were formally acknowledged by Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe, who noted that arrests had been made inside the judge’s security ring.
“One of the security personnel is at large, while others are under police custody,” Edafe said.
According to Asaba division officials, the night guard’s disappearance prompted swift internal scrutiny; the guard’s name has been suppressed for the integrity of the investigation.
