Days after terrorists kidnapped 26 schoolgirls from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, troops who were formerly stationed there are currently being questioned at Defence Headquarters.
Punch was informed by a top government official with knowledge of the investigation that the military command had started looking into why soldiers had abruptly left the school just before the attack.
It is known that on November 17, terrorists raided the school, killing Vice Principal Malam Hassan Makuku before taking 26 kids with them.
There are now only 24 females remaining in the jungles after two of the kidnapped girls managed to flee from their captors.
In response to the kidnapping, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris demanded an investigation of the military personnel’s abrupt departure from the school.
The governor stated that Kebbi had previously provided the military authorities with reliable security warnings, including notifications predicting the possibility of an attack on the school, following a private meeting in Jos with Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defense.
He questioned why security personnel were removed just prior to the attack, claiming that they were sent out in reaction to the intelligence.
According to the senior government source who talked with Punch, Kebbi is awaiting the results of the military inquiry into who gave the order for the staff to vacate the school grounds before to the assault.
“The military personnel stationed at the school have been summoned to Abuja for interrogation,” he declared. On Monday, the Defense Headquarters called them in. The case is being monitored.
The soldiers were from the Army Barracks in Zuru, the spokesman said.
The personnel had been called to the Defense Headquarters, according to a reliable security source.
“I don’t have all the information, but I found out on Monday from army colleagues that the soldiers had reported to headquarters. The events in Kebbi and Niger have pleased all of the security chiefs. Both the cops and the troops performed poorly. However, the inquiry is still ongoing, he stated.
The probe is still ongoing, according to a senior military officer who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss.
“Everyone connected to the school will be questioned in order to ascertain what went wrong, and the military hierarchy is looking into the situation. “Anyone found guilty will undoubtedly face consequences,” he declared.
“It’s not unlikely that the troops have been summoned in connection with the incident, but the matter is still under probe,” stated a second military source.
