Troops Rescue Seven Kidnap Victims in Kano State

During a late-night operation in the Tsanyawa local government area of Kano State, soldiers from Operation MESA, under the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, rescued seven kidnapped victims.

The army began the rescue effort after receiving a distress call at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Friday from Yankamaye Cikin Gari villagers who reported bandit activity in the area.

According to a statement released on Sunday by Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the forces responded quickly to the location, fought the bandits, and released the victims while collaborating with members of the Nigerian Air Force and the Police.

Zubairu claimed that a 60-year-old woman had been killed by the attackers prior to the arrival of the troops.

He clarified that following the initial encounter, soldiers chased the armed men along their escape path toward Rimaye, engaging them with what he called a “high volume of fire,” causing them to abandon the detainees.

According to reports, four kidnapped victims are still missing.

“The fleeing bandits escaped toward Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State, while security forces continue efforts to track their movement,” the statement reads.

The Commander praised the soldiers of the 3 Brigade for their courage and prompt action, and he urged locals to provide security authorities with reliable and timely intelligence to help continued efforts to eradicate banditry in border areas.
