FG Comments on Nigeria-US Relationship After Visa Restrictions Announcement

According to Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, the United States’ visa limitations issued by Secretary of State Marco Rubio have no bearing on the country’s diplomatic ties.

He claimed that notwithstanding individual visa limitations, Nigeria-US relations are unaltered.

According to reports, on Wednesday, the US administration imposed immigration restrictions on Nigerians who finance or encourage the country’s Christian genocide.

During an appearance on Arise Television, Idris discussed the development and stated that Nigeria and the US continue to have a positive relationship and are cooperating to overcome any obstacles.

“Every country has the right to issue visas,” he declared. The government of the United States, Nigeria, or any other nation has its own visa policy that is periodically reviewed.

Perhaps that’s the question you’re posing. Given the context of the recent tensions, let me state that Nigeria and the United States are still collaborating closely to find solutions wherever there are ambiguities or issues that need to be resolved. The Nigerian government is dedicated, transparent, and actively working with the United States to resolve any issues that need to be resolved regarding some of the diplomatic tensions that have arisen.

“However, Nigeria and the United States continue to have normal diplomatic relations, and we are working perfectly together to ensure that we continue to advance the mutual interests of both countries.”
