Super Eagles Demand Higher AFCON Bonuses as Osimhen Faces Scrutiny Ahead of Tanzania Clash

In response to the recent increase in tournament prize money, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have begun negotiations with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on bonus payments for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). They are demanding an enhanced package.

The federation has proposed a performance-based bonus scheme, with payments increasing as the squad advances through the Morocco competition, according to sources acquainted with the talks who spoke to SCORENigeria.

However, it is believed that the players are aiming for a greater total, claiming that the updated incentives no longer accurately represent the tournament’s financial situation.

Their position comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced last weekend that the competition’s winners will henceforth get $10 million.

Compared to the previous edition, when hosts and winners Cote d’Ivoire got seven million dollars for winning the trophy in 2023, this increase represents a huge boost. Nigeria won four million dollars after finishing as runners-up that time.

In addition to the discussions, Kocaelispor forward Serdar Dursun’s remarks have drawn attention to the 26-year-old star striker Victor Osimhen.

Speaking on Ertem Şener’s YouTube channel, Dursun complimented Osimhen’s physical presence but questioned his finishing ability in comparison to Mauro Icardi, his Galatasaray club partner.

“Osimhen is an excellent player. He is the best striker physically,” Dursun stated through Habersarikirmizi.

“He has amazing physical quality and sprinting power. But he doesn’t finish very well. Icardi’s finishing is superior.

When the Super Eagles begin their campaign against Tanzania later today at 6:30 p.m., Osimhen, who is a member of Nigeria’s roster for the 2025 AFCON, will have the opportunity to respond to those comments on the field.
