Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has submitted a proposed N890.33bn budget for 2026 to the State House of Assembly, with strong focus on road projects to reduce traffic and support economic growth in Maiduguri.
The governor said Maiduguri has been facing serious traffic congestion and deteriorating roads due to rapid urban expansion and the return of residents following years of insurgency.
Zulum announced plans to construct a new flyover at the Bulumkutu Jagol area, which will become the fifth flyover in the state capital.
He made this known on Monday while presenting the 2026 budget, tagged “Budget of Sustained Recovery and Growth.”
According to him, N536.56bn is set aside for capital projects, while N353.77bn will cover recurrent spending.
Zulum also revealed that key roads within Maiduguri, such as Federal Low-cost Road, Bulumkutu-Ngomari Road, and Gwange Road, will be rehabilitated.
He added that the railway line between Bulumkutu and Kasuwan Shanu will be removed to allow road expansion and other infrastructure works.
The governor said N58.27bn has been allocated to the Ministry of Works to handle the flyover, road repairs, and related projects.
He further disclosed that major roads linking Maiduguri to other towns, including Monguno, Dikwa, and Banki, will also be fixed.
Zulum said the projects will help boost business activities, improve safety on the roads, and ease traffic across Maiduguri.
