Mr. Donald Duke, a former governor of Cross River State and previous Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, has been named chairman of the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) newly established Leadership Forum.
At an expanded meeting of the PDP’s Cross River State chapter’s executive committee and stakeholders, Duke—who recently left the party—was appointed to the role.
The Leadership Forum is the party’s top non-elective advisory body, according to a statement signed by Dr. John Ogar, the state chairman, and released at the conclusion of the meeting.
According to the communiqué, the forum was deemed necessary and would be made up of esteemed participants with a track record of honesty and leadership.
The party claims that the body’s purpose is to oversee and offer strategic direction to the ADC leadership throughout the state.
Duke was unanimously approved by the meeting’s stakeholders to serve as the forum’s chairman and oversee operations in each of the three senatorial districts.
In addition, three other party elders were chosen to serve as district supervisors: Dr. Effiong Nyong, a former ADC governorship candidate, for the Southern District; Chief Ray Ugba Morphy for the Northern Senatorial District; and Chief Akin Ricketts, a former chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, for the Central District.
In order to recruit at least one million voters before the next general elections, the party decided to step up its membership campaign.
Additionally, it promised to police internal discipline and warned that any member, regardless of status, discovered to be involved in actions that hinder the party’s growth will be subject to the party constitution.
