The Anambra State House of Assembly has indicated that it will remove the suspension imposed on Bernard Udemezue, the representative for the Ayamelum State Constituency.
In August 2025, Udemezue was suspended after it was alleged that he had posted information on social media about the House’s operations, including the allowances and emoluments of its members.
In his defense, the congressman said that his actions were justified by his pledge to his voters that, should he be elected, he would maintain an open door policy and provide any necessary accounting of his stewardship, including disclosing his salary.
After he tried to restart after his initial six-month ban ended, he was thrown out for an additional three months for failing to follow the protocol, which calls for an apology to the House.
Somtochukwu Udeze, the Speaker of the Assembly, instructed the House Committee on Rules, Ethics, and Privileges to examine the suspension on Wednesday.
The committee, led by Majority Leader Ikenna Ofodeme, was given an urgent job by Udeze during plenary to reexamine the issue in accordance with the House resolution and report back to the Assembly on the next adjourned date.
In order to determine whether the affected member has complied with the suspension, the Speaker stated that the committee will evaluate the suspension before it is lifted.
According to him, the committee would examine these and submit a report to the House for deliberation and recommendations on the next adjourned day.
On February 26, 2026, Udemezue is scheduled to carry out his suspension.
