NAF Trains Four Personnel on Helicopter Maintenance in Italy

In an attempt to improve technical capability, the Nigerian Air Force has trained four of its members in airframe maintenance for the AW109 Trekker helicopter.

This was stated in a statement that was uploaded to the Nigerian Air Force’s official X page.

The statement states that the training was conducted between January 12 and February 20, 2026, at the Leonardo Helicopter Division facility in Sesto Calende, Italy.

According to the Air Force, the program included both theoretical and hands-on training. Participants learned how to identify helicopter systems and subsystems, how they operate, and what maintenance is needed to keep the aircraft in airworthy condition.

The statement stated, “The extensive training program featured rigorous theoretical and practical phases, during which participants were instructed on the identification of AW109S Trekker helicopter systems and subsystems, their modes of operation, and critical procedures for effective maintenance and troubleshooting required to keep the aircraft in an airworthy condition.”

In order to guarantee safe and standardized maintenance procedures, the course also addressed how to properly interpret and apply maintenance manuals, according to the statement.

It stated that the training is in line with Sunday Kelvin Aneke’s command philosophy, which places a strong emphasis on staff development, technical excellence, and ongoing professional advancement.

According to the statement, the four employees received certificates at the conclusion of the program as a sign of their successful completion of the course.
