The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) issue over its Ibadan elective convention was postponed indefinitely by the Court of Appeal in Ibadan on Wednesday.
The parties were also given permission by the appellate court to settle their disagreement outside of court.
The justices’ panel encouraged the parties to try to resolve their differences amicably during the procedures.
The court decided that the parties are free to go back to court for additional proceedings if they are unable to come to an agreement.
In order to promote a peaceful settlement of the conflict, the justices also advised the attorneys representing the parties to give their clients appropriate advice.
The court also advised the attorneys to pay attention to time, especially in light of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s recently revealed election schedule.
Recall that the PDP election convention in Ibadan was recently declared unlawful by the Court of Appeal, which is located in Abuja.
Kabiru Turaki (SAN) emerged at the convention as the party’s national chairman.
A three-member panel of the appellate court ruled unanimously on Monday that the PDP’s appeal was without substance.
The panel upheld Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court of Nigeria’s decision from October 31 and settled the four arguments brought up for decision against the party.
All of the plaintiffs’ requested remedies, including preventing INEC from acknowledging the results of the proposed convention, had been granted by the lower court.
