In Nekede, Owerri West LGA, members of the Imo State Police Command, working in tandem with the State Security Organization, apprehended a suspected cultist and retrieved a firearm from him.
According to Henry Okoye, the Command’s spokesperson, the arrest was made in response to reliable information of suspicious activity along Old Nekede Road early on March 21, 2026.
According to Okoye, the Operatives moved quickly in response to the information and captured Bright Chidi, a 26-year-old man.
He was found to have one single-barrel handgun built locally and one live round.
According to the police spokeswoman, the suspect admitted to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity, a cult associated with violent criminal activity in the area, during first questioning.
He said that while efforts are being made to capture more syndicate members, the matter has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department, or SCID, for consolidation of the investigation.
In order to improve public safety, Okoye continued, “the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has ordered a sustained intelligence-led crackdown on criminal elements across the state and urges residents to support the police and other security agencies with timely and credible information.”
