Ogun Assembly Minority Leader, Others Leave PDP for APC

Six members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, who were elected by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lukman Adeleye, who represents Odogbolu State Constituency, Dickson Awolaja, Remo-North, Lawal Samsudeen, Ogun Waterside, Waliu Owode, Ijebu-East, Oluseun Adesanya, Ijebu-North East, and Damilare Bello, Sagamu I are among the members.

Speaker Oludaisi Elemide reportedly read a joint letter of defection from the PDP to the APC during Tuesday’s plenary at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

They said that an internal issue that had “increasingly hindered the effective and adequate political engagements” was the reason for their withdrawal from the PDP.

They added that the necessity to identify with a progressive and transformative agenda that would better enable them to provide their voters with significant democratic dividends was the driving force behind the defection.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to our legislative duties as well as improved welfare and overall development of our constituents,” the letter continued.

“We also need to use this opportunity to thank the House members and leadership for their cooperation and support.

“Please acknowledge this letter as our official notification and give it the appropriate recognition in accordance with established legislative procedures.”
