At the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, tragedy struck when Seyi Simon, a 25-year-old 300-level student, was allegedly fatally stabbed at a freshmen’s celebration for recently enrolled students.
It was discovered that the event took place at the institution’s hall in Kontagora, Niger State, on Saturday night.
According to report, sources said that the deadly event occurred after a conflict between the deceased and Jafar Musa, an 18-year-old suspect.
The suspect was reportedly a member of the institution’s Man O’ War regiment.
According to a student who spoke on condition of anonymity, the brawl started out as a small argument before turning violent.
According to the source cited by Daily Trust, “it started as a misunderstanding but later turned into a fight between the two.”
Wasiu Abiodun, the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the event and claimed the victim was stabbed by the suspect during the altercation.
“On April 5, 2026, at approximately 1:40 a.m., a report was received at ‘A’ Division Kontagora that a misunderstanding occurred between one Jafar Musa, 18, of the Angwan-Gwari area of Kontagora, and one Seyi Simon, 25, a student of the institution, during a party organized by students for newly admitted students at the school hall,” he stated.
According to Abiodun, the injured student was brought right away to the General Hospital in Kontagora for treatment, but upon arrival, it was determined that he was dead.
Jafar Musa attacked the student with a dagger during the altercation. After being sent to the General Hospital in Kontagora, the person was pronounced dead. He continued, “The suspect has been taken into custody and is presently being investigated.
According to the police spokeswoman, the suspect is being held while the incident’s circumstances are investigated.
The university community is reportedly in mourning as a result of the tragedy, and calls have been made for increased security and more stringent rules at student activities in order to stop it from happening again.
