Court Adjourns El-Rufai’s Bail Hearing to June

The Kaduna State High Court has put off hearing the bail request made by former governor Nasir El-Rufai until the first week of June 2026.

Reports say that Justice Darius Khobo is in charge of the case and set the new date during a hearing on Tuesday in Kaduna.

The ex-governor is facing a number of charges related to alleged financial wrongdoing and abuse of power. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission filed the charges against him.

Around 9 a.m., El-Rufai arrived at the courthouse in a convoy with officials from the anti-corruption agency and members of the Department of State Services. There were a lot of police officers around the court, and they were in charge of keeping people from moving around.

A group of his supporters gathered outside the courtroom during the session, and security staff kept an eye on things to make sure nothing went wrong.

After the hearing, Ukpon Akpan, his lawyer, said he was worried about the repeated delays in the bail application and said they were happening for political reasons.

When the court meets again in June, it is likely that it will continue to hear the case.

El-Rufai has also claimed that there is a new plot to involve him in criminal activities. He has warned of what he calls coordinated efforts to damage his reputation and keep him in jail for a long time.
