Nigerian Army Introduces Standardised Evaluation Framework to Boost Accountability and Performance

The Nigerian Army has stepped up efforts aimed at improving operational effectiveness and institutional performance with the introduction of a standardised evaluation framework that is set to enhance accountability and professionalism across its formations and units.

This was contained in a press release issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Aniele on Tuesday April 29, 2026 after a sensitisation seminar organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Standards and Evaluation at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites, Asokoro, Abuja.

The statement said the seminar convened senior officers and stakeholders to further understand structured performance assessment mechanisms for the promotion of discipline and improved operational outcomes.

In his opening remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, represented by the Military Secretary (Army), Maj Gen Everest Okoro, said the seminar was a major milestone in the drive for institutional excellence in the Army.

He said the Department of Standards and Evaluation is the Army’s quality assurance arm that enforces compliance with established benchmarks, conducts combat-readiness assessments and evaluates operational activities across units.

“These measures are meant to identify strengths, address gaps and ensure continuous improvement in operational performance,” the statement quoted him as saying.

Earlier, the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, Maj Gen Bobby Ugiagbe, said the seminar was aimed at promoting systematic application of standards across the Nigerian Army towards enhancing discipline, professionalism and effectiveness.

“This initiative will help institutionalise standard evaluation practices to improve overall performance outcomes,” he said.

The release added that the seminar is indicative of the Nigerian Army’s determination to entrench a culture of accountability, precision and continuous improvement in keeping with global best practice.
