Bende Elders Seek Monarchs’ Intervention In Orji Kalu, Deputy Speaker Rift

Elders of various communities in Bende local government have appealed to traditional rulers to urgently intervene in the political tension between their two sons, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.

The elders made the call during a visit to Eze Anthony Okorochukwu of Bende ancient kingdom, Bende LGA.

The elders, led by former Chairman of the local government area, Emmanuel Onwuchekwa, urged the monarchs to advise the former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu to end his rift with Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and embrace peace.

According to them, the Deputy Speaker is not against the ambition of Senator Kalu to contest for Senate in 2027 election in any way.

“Ben is not stopping Senator Orji Uzor Kalu from running for Senate.

“They are running for two different offices. But why this level of hostility?

“We do not want any war between Igbere and Bende. We are fed up with this”, said the elders.
