The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to southern Nigeria for a single four-year term.
The decision followed the approval of a motion moved at the party’s National Convention by the member representing Ogbaru Constituency of Anambra State in the House of Representatives, Afam Victor Ogene.
Delegates at the convention passed the motion
It was also agreed that the North will automatically be awarded the presidential ticket after the four-year term.
The resolution has paved the way for Peter Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State and other southern candidates to go ahead and buy the party’s presidential nomination form ahead of the primaries.
Obi and former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso have both defected to the NDC.
The duo is expected to carry the party’s flag in the presidential election in 2027.
