Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has finally been declared free of Covid-19 after testing negative for the virus.

His club Napoli officially announced the negative test on Friday and he is expected to resume training on Saturday.

“Victor Osimhen has recovered from Covid-19,” the club tweeted on Friday evening, displaying their excitement with emojis.

While Napoli did not provide additional details, Sky Italia reported that Osimhen would resume training at the weekend.

The Nigeria striker has been out since injuring his shoulder on international duty in November but could have returned to action earlier if not for the coronavirus he contracted on holiday.

Osimhen tested positive for the virus on 31 December, a day after returning to Italy from a brief vacation in Nigeria.

The club was left incensed when video footage emerged of Osimhen celebrating his birthday on 29 December without observing coronavirus safety measures.

He was reportedly fined by Napoli and had to publicly apologise to the club and its fans for his error of judgement.

His last appearance for Napoli was against Bologna on 8 November when he scored the winner.

He has missed around a dozen matches since his 13 November injury, when he was taken straight to the hospital during Nigeria’s 4-4 draw with Sierra Leone in Benin City. He scored one of the goals before dislocating his shoulder.

He tested positive twice for Covid-19 before this negative test.
