How Benin Republic falsified Iwobi’s coronavirus test result

There are indications that Benin Republic falsified Alex Iwobi’s positive coronavirus test result to frustrate the Super Eagles.

The Everton star missed Nigeria’s 1-0 win over the Squirrels on Saturday after he tested positive for the virus.

According to coronavirus guidelines, he had to be immediately withdrawn from the rest of the team and kept in isolation following the positive test.

The first test was conducted on Friday as the team arrived in Porto-Novo for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and Iwobi watched from isolation as his colleagues won through a late Paul Onuachu strike.

Recall that the West African nation also forced their neighbours to train in the dark on their arrival.

However, the Nigerian contingent suspected that Iwobi’s test result might have been inaccurate.

The former Arsenal star then took the test again upon return to Lagos.

The result turned out to be negative, according to the Nigeria Football Federation.

“Update: @NGSuperEagles forward, @alexiwobi has tested negative after further COVID-19 tests were conducted.

#SoarSuperEagles #Team9jaStrong,” the NFF tweeted on Tuesday morning.

The already qualified Super Eagles host Lesotho in Lagos on Tuesday evening in their final AFCON qualifying group match and it remains to be seen if Iwobi will be involved.
