Saudi Arabia will observe the holy month of Ramadan from Tuesday, state media reported, as King Salman urged his people to adhere to coronavirus preventive measures.
Observers spotted the new moon on Monday evening and reported the sighting to religious authorities, the state Al Ekhbariya TV said.
The Saudi Supreme Court announced that Tuesday would be the first day of Ramadan after approving the sighting.
This is the second Islamic holy month being observed by Muslims during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Ramadan comes this year as the world reels under coronavirus pandemic.. We ask everyone to adhere to the (coronavirus) preventive measures and take the initiative to receive the vaccines,” Saudi King Salman was quoted as saying by Al Ekhbariya.
The Saudi king urged all Muslims to unite and hailed all the measures taken to ensure the safety of Umra performers during the upcoming holy month.
