THE Federal Government has urged Israel and Palestine to end the ongoing hostilities and show commitment to the two-state agreement.

A statement released by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ferdinand Nwonye, today, said Nigeria is monitoring the unfolding developments amd urged both parties to cease fire and reduce casualties.

“The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to state that the Federal Government of Nigeria is watching with great concern the unfolding developments with Israel and the State of Palestine and urges both parties to see reason and de-escalate the hostilities,” the statement reads in part.

“The Federal Government further urges the two parties to remain committed to the two-state solution and, in the meantime, guarantee the rights of all citizens to live in peace and dignity”, the statement read.

Violence in Gaza and Israel shows no sign of abating amid continued rocket fire and air strikes, and civil unrest among Jewish and Israeli Arab mobs.

Deaths continue to mount, with at least 83 people now killed in Gaza and seven in Israel.

This is now the worst violence since 2014, fuelled initially by weeks of Israeli-Palestinian tension in East Jerusalem which led to clashes at a holy site revered by both Muslims and Jews.
