THE Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Godswill Obioma, has been assassinated by gunmen.

Obioma was killed last night in his home in Minna, the Niger State capital.

According to his wife, Elizabeth Obioma, the NECO boss was strangled to death.

“The assassins came in and killed him and left without taking anything,” she said this morning.

Weping profusely, Elizabeth said her husband had just returned to Minna from a trip to Abuja when the armed men, lurking in his compound, descended on him and strangled him.

The police, however, is yet to react to the news.

Obioma, 67, was appointed head of NECO barely a year ago on May 14, 2020.

He hailed from Abia State.

The incident came barely a day after a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Gulak, was gunned down in Owerri, raising widespread fears of insecurity.
