Insecurity: Don’t shift your responsibility to governors, Tambuwal tells Buhari
GOVERNOR Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has urged President Buhari to stop abdicating his obligation of ensuring the safety of lives and property of Nigerians to state governors.
He stated this today while presenting a paper on ‘Democracy IN Nigeria: Leadership And Good Governance’ at the Sokoto mega youth interactive session.
“The current passing of the buck on Nigeria’s sad security situation is, therefore, a misnomer that is not serving and positive purpose.
“Security is in the Exclusive Legislative List and therefore, the constitutional responsibility of the President, who is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. Thus, the President cannot abdicate the obligation of ensuring the safety of lives and property of Nigerians to State Governors,” he said.
According to him, state governors didn’t have the confidence under the law, to direct military or paramilitary agencies to take any action, without clearance from the President.
“In spite of the attempt on the part of President Buhari to push the buck to states and diminish their efforts in fighting insecurity, governors in Nigeria have sustained and will keep up support and cooperation for the Federal Government and security agencies in their states, with a view to tackling the situation,” he said
Tambuwal also urged the federal government to support those states that indicated interest to establish to tackleurther urged youths to reset their minds and work towards the development of their communities, states and nation.
