Afenifere visits Tinubu as presidential ambition gathers momentum

Leaders of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, yesterday, paid a visit to a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, at his home in Lagos.

They include Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Chief Supo Sonibare, Oba Olaitan Oladipo, and retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Tunji Alapini.

This is coming days after Tinubu returned from a medical trip to the United Kingdom where he underwent knee surgery.

Although, the motive for the visit wasn’t made public, it may not unconnected to the next presidential elections.

Tinubu is yet to publicly declare his interest to run for President in 2023, but there have been strong campaign for his candidacy.

Following the official launch of a campaign group, South-West Agenda for Asiwaju, SWAGA ’23, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other APC chieftains in the region have thrown their weight behind Tinubu.

Meanwhile, the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has lauded Afenifere for visiting Tinubu.

The group’s Secretary-General, Dr. Kunle Olajide, said the interest of the Yoruba nation was paramount, commending Afenifere for acting as fathers to all.

He said: “Why must anyone be surprised for the visit? They only disagreed to agree. The interest of Yoruba Nation remains paramount. And Tinubu is a foremost Yoruba leader and Afenifere has been in this business for a long time.”

“I commend the leaders for the step. They are true to fathers to all of us. That is what they have demonstrated. That is absolutely in order. In fact, they made me proud because the unity of Yoruba is paramount in the minds of the ethnic group.”
