VICTOR Osimhen made his first appearance for Napoli in three months on Monday night as they defeated Bologna 2-0.

The Super Eagles striker had been out of action since November when he underwent surgery after he fractured his facial bones in a horrific clash of heads during a Serie A fixture against Inter Milan.

The 23-year-old, wearing a special protective mask, replaced Dries Mertens in the 71st minute on Monday night and made it through the final 20 minutes without incident.

Mexico forward Hirving Lozano scored both goals for visiting Napoli as they closed the gap between them and Serie A leaders Inter Milan to four points.

Osimhen’s last appearance before Monday night was in the 3-2 Serie A defeat to Inter Milan on 21 November and he missed 11 games in all competitions for Napoli.

He was also forced to withdraw from the Nigeria’s squad to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon over a combination of the injury and a positive Covid-19 test close to the kick-off of the tournament.

In his absence, the Super Eagles have won their first two matches in Cameroon against Egypt and Sudan and have qualified for the round of 16 with a game to spare.

The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer is a very important player for club and country, and has scored nine goals in 15 appearances for Napoli this season, as well as five in his last five Nigeria matches.

“Feels So Good To Be Back! Solid Performance From The Boys,” Osimhen tweeted moments after the match on Monday night.

“Onto The Next One, GOD Is The Greatest. We Move.”
