NYSC Nasarawa organises refresher training workshop

The NYSC Nasarawa State Secretariat in its effort to improve the staff productivity and performance has organised a one- day refresher training workshop for members of staff which was held at the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Keffi on Tuesday 18th, January 2022.

The workshop with the theme, “Towards Enhancing the Performance of Staff in NYSC Nasarawa State”, as an initiative of the State Coordinator, was organised to improve staff performance in the role of an inspector in administration as well as communication processes, within the scope of the scheme at the state level, especially in field operations.

 

In his opening remarks, the State Coordinator, Abdullahi Ahmad Jikamshi, urged Staff to participate optimally during the workshop especially as the topics selected for the workshop have been deliberately designed help staff improve in their various job schedules and to have a better understanding of the rudiments and operations of the scheme in recent times.

Jikamshi reminded the staff that their ability to acquire more knowledge on the operations of the Scheme, will help widen their horizon and enhance productivity. Speaking on the role of an Inspector, the State Coordinator extensively on ensuring the welfare, security and utilization of corps members; solid interactions with stakeholders; neat appearance of staff; enculturating Corps members in their host communities e.t.c.

Representing the Director (HRM), Hajia Habiba Bappah, Deputy Director {(Staff Welfare & Industrial Relations (HRM)}, Chief Chinwendu Chukwu, in his speech, appreciated the State Coordinator for the impactful programme organised to retrain staff. He stated that certain issues can be addressed quickly if staff put more efforts in ensuring the welfare of Corps members. However, he encouraged staff to go through official documents such as NYSC Byelaws, NYSC Acts as well as official publications/resolutions of the scheme, for effective dealings with Corps members and on the job.

Interestingly, while the workshop was ongoing, the Director-General, NYSC, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, who had come to inspect the SAED Centre under construction in Keffi Camp, commended the State Coordinator for the laudable initiative to retrain members of staff in State. “Human capacity development is critical to the success of any organisation”, the DG stated.

He further admonished members of staff to cherish their integrity, to take the refresher training seriously and avoid unethical practices that can tarnish their image and the image of the Scheme. He equally encouraged members of staff to always do what is right.

The topics discussed were;
1. An Overview of the Pivotal Role of An Inspector in the Administration of NYSC by the State Coordinator, Mr. Abdullahi Ahmed Jikamshi.

2. Field Applications of an Inspector in the Administration of NYSC by AD (CI&M), Mrs. Joy Haruna.

3. Communication as an Administrative Tool by AD (PRU), Ms. Lucie-Ann Laha.

4. Administrative terms, Communications and Processes by the State Coordinator, Mr. Abdullahi Jikamshi.

Syndicate groups were formed to discuss critically on the papers presented, thereafter resolutions were made, aimed at improving the performance of staff in NYSC Nasarawa State.

The One -day workshop which was well attended by members of staff, equally provided an opportunity for staff preparing for the forthcoming promotion interview to understand the structural framework and operations of the Scheme.
