Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked claims that he recently met with his political foe, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State recently.

There were reports in some sections of the media that Ayu met with the Rivers State Governor on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

However, the PDP chairman in a statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Simon Imobo-Tswam, denied meeting Wike lately.

Imobo-Tswam stated, “Dr. Ayu clearly said that he never travelled to Port Harcourt and has not set eyes on Governor Wike lately.

“The photograph trending on social media is an old one. The story accompanying it is, therefore, false and mischievous.

He urged PDP members to focus on the 2023 general elections.

The PDP plunged into crisis after Governor Wike who lost the party’s presidential candidate to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, requested Ayu’s resignation on grounds that the party chairman and presidential candidate can not be from the same region.
