The embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Thursday held an event in Abuja in commemoration of the 39th birthday of the Supreme Leader of DPRK, Comrade Kim Jong-un.

The North Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Jon Tong Chol, who addressed the audience, explained that the year 2023 is an important year for the North Korean people because it is the third year of the five-year plan, and the 8th congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), and also marks the 87th anniversary of the victory of the first Korean liberation war, and the 75th founding anniversary of the Republic.

He said the Korean people worldwide celebrate the Supreme Leader’s birthday because of his dedication and devotion to the service of the people.

“This year is important; the third year of key significance in implementing the five-year plan, and the right congress of the party, and also marks the 87th anniversary of the victory of the first Korean liberation war, and 75th founding anniversary of the Republic,” he said.

The ambassador thanked Nigeria for her support and solidarity.

Speakers at the event urged Nigerians, especially future leaders to learn from the DPRK in addressing Nigeria’s literacy problems.

North Korea is one of the few countries in the world with a 100 percent literacy rate.
