With the release of the enhanced Nigerian e-Passport and the opening of the new Passport Production Center and the new Passport Front Office in Ilesa, Osun State, the federal government has seen another significant improvement aimed at making passport application, processing, and production more seamless for the traveling public.
The launch of the new, improved e-Passport and the front office and production facilities, according to Interior Minister Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who oversaw the historic event in front of dignitaries, will make it simpler for more travelers to obtain the Nigerian international passport.
He claimed that with the opening of the facilities, Ilesa has joined the list of locations where the improved e-Passport system has recently been implemented for easier access by Nigerians, including Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu, Katsina, Zaria, and Daura. He also listed Nigerian missions abroad in countries like the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.

Ogbeni Aregbesola praised President Muhammadu Buhari for providing the necessary direction for all the accomplishments listed by the ministry, including the reforms of the nation’s passport administration.
He also expressed his appreciation for the Nigeria Immigration Service’s (NIS) commitment and dedication to carrying out the many reforms of the passport administration.
“Over the past four years that I have been in charge of overseeing the Ministry of Interior, The Nigeria Immigration Service has continued to make very remarkable contributions to the overall service delivery and accomplishments of the mandate.
“The widely praised reforms in the passport administration both at home and in the Diaspora,” the minister said, “are the climax of these contributions by the NIS.”
Ogbeni Aregbesola praised the NIS under the leadership of Mr. Isah Jere Idris, Comptroller General of Immigration, for their professionalism and dedication to providing high-quality services.
He encouraged the populace to make the best use of the facilities while thanking other stakeholders, service providers, and the host community for their cooperation in making the Ilesa facilities possible.
In his speech, CGI Jere Idris said that the Service’s goal of providing robust service to Nigerians and the traveling public depended on the enhanced e-Passport.

“The NIS is more than committed to delivering outcomes that satisfy modern society’s needs while maximizing the use of resources at its disposal. The improved e-Passport is important to our efforts to deliver effective services to our citizens. We are aware of the difficulties some of our countrymen have recently had in obtaining passport services, but with the various initiatives in place, such as the introduction of the upgraded e-Passport here in Ilesa, these difficulties will soon be replaced by a more straightforward passport application and processing system. To lessen the traffic, efforts are still being made to ensure that more front offices are opened in other states, he said.
