Buhari’s Top Minister Bemoans “I Regret Not Wooing Philip Aduda To APC Before LP Tsunami”

The Federal Capital Territory minister, Mohammed Bello, expressed regret over his failure to persuade Philip Aduda, the Senate minority leader, to defect from the People’s Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress.

It is important for Aduda to carpet cross to the ruling party, the minister reportedly said on Friday, April 21, at the Sallah homage to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

The Labour Party’s Ireti Kingibe defeated incumbent Philip Aduda in the race for reelection.
Bello claimed he tried to woo Aduda to the ruling party in Nigeria but all his efforts had been in vain before the Labour Party (LP) wave of the February 25 National Assembly elections swept him away.

After three terms serving as the senator for the Federal Capital Territory, Aduda was defeated in the most recent election by Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party.It was a mistake to not woo Philip Aduda to the APC before the LP Tsunami. Saddened by Buhari’s Top Minister
Bello encouraged the lawmaker to think about defecting from the PDP to the APC, further describing Aduda as a bridge builder despite being in the opposition party.

The minister added that since the minority leader of the Senate had less than six weeks left in office, he should be appointed as an ambassador to Ukraine.

In response to the minister, Aduda said he would consider Bello’s suggestion that he join the APC.

He also praised President Muhammadu Buhari for his tolerance of everyone, including opposition party politicians.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senate seat was declared won by Mrs. Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party (LP) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

On Tuesday, February 28, in Abuja, INEC Returning Officer Prof. Sanni Saka announced the outcome.

Saka reported that Ireti received 202,175 votes, defeating Mr. Philip Aduda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Angulu Dobi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 100,544 and 78,905 votes, respectively.

In the meantime, Federal Capital Territory citizens have been urged to vote for Ireti Kingibe, the district’s newly elected senator.

The senatorial candidate for the All Progressives Grand Alliance called residents of FCt.

Kingibe, according to Anthony Ezekwugo, needs all the help she can get to provide the FCT’s citizens with effective government.
